Movie Review: Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap
Story
Story: Story: When the entire city is living under the threat of underworld, Vijju (Amitabh Bachchan), a criminal cum pub owner from Paris, returns to Mumbai to complete a secret mission. Underworld don Kabir (Prakash Raj) is on a look out for someone who can kill ACP Karan (Sonu Sood). Highly impressed by Vijju, Kabir hires him to get Karan out of his way. On the other hand, Karan has a parallel romantic track distracting him enough. His past revisits him, when he accidentally bumps into Tanya (Sonal Chauhan) at the police station. Karan’s in a fix, for he’s always had feelings for Tanya as the two of them went to same college. The movie progresses with Vijju flaunting enough style, attitude, action and masala – he beats hooligans to death, delivers killer dialogues, saves girls from eve-teasers and reacts strongly every time he's called ‘Bbuddah’. Another interesting character, Amrita (Charnmi Kaur), who plays Tanya's friend, is a flamboyant girl, in search of a suitable match for herself, until she finds out that her mother (Raveena Tandon) has fallen head over heels for Vijju, when she should be actually searching for a son-in-law.
What follows next is complete chaos, drizzled with a masala mix of kicks, punches, threats, blows and few memorable killer dialogues.
Story treatment: Definitely not to be missed, for the superstar is surely back and that too with a bang! Every minute of the movie relives Amitabh's iconic 'angry man' avatar and no one complains. The film is a complete masala movie with all the necessary ingredients, which bring back the memories of action classics. As the name suggests, the film revolves completely around Amitabh, whose over the top tactics leave one wondering, how a 69 year old 'Bbuddah' can be so charismatic and magnetic. The story is made to take a turn in the latter half, but thankfully it’s still funny. The forced humour does provide the flick with certain stickiness. The umpteen number of action sequences clubbed with cheesy dialogues, do give one a feeling that this isn't a movie you can catch with kids, but it’s just been made to entertain Amitabh fans!
Star Cast: The film is an answer to all those who were yearning to see Amitabh do some hardcore action, all these years. And, Amitabh couldn't have had a better action comeback than 'Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap'. Amitabh is brilliant as Vijju, for he leaves no possibility for anyone to raise a question at his acting prowess. His loud yet funky outfits and the unique style of sporting two wrist watches at a time, will be a rage amongst his fans in no time. Watching a 69 year old 'hell of a superstar' ride a Harley Davidson, is breathtaking. Guess Abhishek should take a cue! Sonu Sood is honest in his attempt and plays his part well. Raveena Tandon’s comeback isn’t anything to rave about, for she looks completely unreal in the movie. Sonal Chauhan looks beautiful and it seems that she was only paid to only look pretty. If you opt for a restroom break, chances are you’d miss out on Hema Malini, for she’s just there to cash on the ‘Baghban’ magic. Prakash Raj and Makrand Deshpande churn out a brilliant performance in their short roles. But, it's the new discovery, Tollywood actress Charnmi Kaur, who manages to steal the show with her flamboyant frolics.
Direction: Director Puri Jagannadh has helmed ‘Bbuddah’ in a fashion that it seems he only wanted to cater to Amitabh fans. His depiction of Amitabh, is as glitzy as it can get and Puri accomplishes that beautifully. He succeeds in his endeavor of trying to find a perfect balance between Bachchan's action sequences and his overt mood swings, q. In the meantime, he also manages to make the best possible use of a huge star cast, in delivering a complete paisa-vasool.
Dialogues/ Cinematography/Music: If the dialogues, action sequences and the witty humour of Bachchan weren't enough, the film also presents the superstar, as the main singer, with four out five songs sung by the megastar himself. Though the songs aren't extraordinary, they seem just fine while one's watching the flick. The item number sung by Amitabh along with son Abhishek, is an interesting rap, where the old tracks of 80s, have been mixed well. Dialogues, especially those delivered by Amitabh are sure to be greeted by huge applause and whistles. Talking about the action sequences, the stunt and explosion shots manage to keep up the pace of the movie. The fight sequence that introduces Amitabh and the climax scene, have been shot to perfection and will make the masses go hysterical.
3 Ups and 3 Downs: ‘Bbuddah’ is old wine in a new bottle, but it is indeed a complete entertainer. Amitabh, in his never seen before stud attitude and a stylish angry 'old' man avatar, definitely wins the hearts of his viewers by churning out something interesting. This one's a must watch for all the die-hard fans of Amitabh! He holds the film on his strong shoulders and one can’t imagine anyone else playing ‘Vijju’. Don't seek sophistication in this one. It should be enjoyed for its garish flavour.
